How to Stop Windows 7/8 from Downloading Windows 10 Automatically

Windows 10 is a significant download of almost 6GB, there is no magic button to click to stop Windows 10 from downloading. You can stop your current operating system windows 7/8 from downloading Windows 10.

  • If you are running Windows 8.1, you need to install KB3065988.
  • In case you are running Windows 7, then install  KB3065987.

After that, follow the instructions below:

1. Type regedit using the Start Menu search.

2. Navigate down to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

3. Create a new DWORD value named DisableOSUpgrade. Set its value to 1.

4. If you decide to upgrade to Windows 10 in Future, then delete the DisableOSUpgrade value.
