Install Exchange Server 2013 on windows server 2012 R2

Installing Exchange Server 2013 is not a difficult operation if you do the necessary work to prepare for the task. When you install Exchange Server 2013, you install your exchange server within the organizational context of the domain in which the server is a member. Exchange 2013 organizations natively have only two server types: Client Access servers and Mailbox servers. In this new architecture, Client Access servers act as the front end for Exchange services, and Mailbox servers act as the back end.

When you install exchange 2013 or use Exchange Online, Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Web App for Devices are automatically configured for use, which makes these features easy to manage.

Exchange 2013 does not have separate server roles for Hub Transport servers or Unified Messaging servers; instead, the related components are now part of the Mailbox server role.

Exchange 2013 prerequisites

There are several procedures that need to be performed before you can Install Exchange 2013 on Windows 2012 R2.

1. The server is joined to an Active Directory domain, and the Active Directory domain is isolated from any production domains

2. The Active Directory forest and domain are at a minimum functionality level of Windows Server 2003.

3. Exchange Server must be member of Domain Controller.

4. Windows Management Framework 3.0

5. Install .NET Framework 4.5

6. Use PowerShell cmdlet

Install-WindowsFeature RSAT-ADDS.

7. Run the following command in Windows PowerShell to install other required components.

 8. After installing the required server roles and features, Download and Install the Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit software.

9. Download and Install Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Packs 64 bit.

Active Directory Preparation

Prepare Schema:

Setup /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms  /PrepareSchema

Prepare the AD:

Setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:TRAININGTECH /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Installing Exchange 2013 

1. Run Setup.exe from the DVD.

2. On the Check for Updates page, select whether you want Setup to connect to the Internet and check for updates or Don’t check the updates option for Exchange 2013, click Next.

3.  Read the Introduction page and click Next.

4. On the License Agreement page, review the terms. If you agree to the terms, select I accept the agreement and Click Next.

5. Select use recommended settings option.

6. Choose Exchange Server roles and click Next. Here, I select Mailbox server role and Client Access server role.

7. Choose a location to install, click Next.

8.  Choose whether to enable or disable malware scanning and click Next.

9. Once the readiness check has completed click Install.

10. The setup will now start.

11. Once the setup completes the installation, click finish.
